Description —Leads the laboratory and product release team. —In conjunction with the Shift Supervisors, liaises with the line Managers (process, technical, utilities and finished products) to ensure effective application and interpretation of laboratory data into process application with regard to in- process and finished product release and control. —Contributes to the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the Manufacturing Division by ensuring that the laboratory
personnel apply good housekeeping practices. —Within agreed authority limits, initiates purchasing of capital laboratory equipment, reagent, glass ware‡etc. —Develops and maintains the Quality Control Procedures and practices and continuously improve them. —Ensures Sugar manufacturing process meets the agreed USCE Quality standards and specifications. —Produces regular report in sugar quality and other supporting activities. —Ensures all Laboratory/ inspection equipment are maintained and calibrated as per schedule. —Optimizes Laboratory Cost through best utilization of available resources. —Conducts internal Audit on the Quality Management System as per ISO 9001 requirements. —Works safely and effectively, ensuring compliance with all safety, quality and environmental policies, procedures and practices. —Ensures the development and implementation of HACCP system and other food safety standards where applicable.
Qualifications •Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in sugar or similar food industrial process laboratories, preferably at a supervisory level. •University degree in Chemistry or related science disciplines. •Must be able to communicate effectively to all levels in both written and spoken English. •Must be prepared to justify and sustain considered conclusions in relation to product quality, sometimes in the face of pressure from contrary views. •A level of competency in computer usage which allows data input, manipulation and report generation, and some development of operating programs. •Experience in Total Quality Tools and SPC would be an advantage. •Experience in water and boiler analyses would be an advantage. •Experience in microbiological techniques would be an advantage. •Experience in ISO 9000 systems would be an advantage. •Experience in HACCP or any other food safety standard would be an advantage.
